Kindergarten at Kirkland Children's School is a vibrant and full-day program that is guided by Certified Teachers following the Washington State Common Core Standards. Young learners begin a journey of discovery and growth, while we nurture natural curiosity and the foundation for lifelong success.
Embarking on their literacy journey, your kindergartener will explore the magic of stories through engaging read-alouds and interactive activities. Students will recognize letters and sounds, taking great steps towards reading. Simultaneously, they will be encouraged to express their thoughts and ideas using drawing, storytelling, and emergent writing.
Impact: Strong communication skills will encourage stronger relationships, the ability to express needs, and success throughout their life and academic challenges.
Transitioning into numbers, your child will engage in hands-on activities, manipulate objects, and play games that explore counting, sorting, recognizing patterns, and understanding fundamental shapes. The experiences build early problem-solving abilities and logical reasoning.
Impact: Understanding of math and thinking is crucial for navigating everyday situations and future academics.
Venturing into the sciences, your kindergartener will make observations and conduct experiments focused on the fascinating world of plants, animals, weather, and basic principles of how things move. Active engagement fosters a sense of wonder for the world and cultivates the essential skill of asking sincere questions.
Impact: Cultivating curiosity and observation skills early on encourages a lifelong love of learning and critical thinking about the world.
As they develop a broader understanding of their place in society, students learn about their families, broader school community, and the diverse cultures around the world, and Bellevue! Kindergarteners can understand perspectives and develop empathy and respect for peers.

Crucially, kindergarten is a time for learning and growth in social and emotional intelligence. Through guided activities and our Second Step program, students will identify and manage feelings in health, practice self-control and empathy, and build positive relationships.
Impact: Strong social-emotional skills are essential for navigating social interactions, building resilience, and well-being.
With joyful movement and creative expression, your kindergartener will participate in daily opportunities for physical activity during outdoor recess and dedicated movement times. Combined with artistic exploration through drawing, painting, music, and dramatic play, kindergarten activities encourage self-expression and the development of important coordination.
Impact: Physical activity supports healthy development and cognition, while creative outlets foster imagination and provide valuable avenues for self-expression.

Registration fee for administrative and accounting is due at the time of enrollment, and annually thereafter.
New Student Deposit holds your position prior to start and is applied to the first month's tuition.
Fee and Deposit are nonrefundable.
